Stitch Collection Books

Week 4 = Cataloging Magazines, Books and Patterns
Day 2 = January 23, 2014

Fair Blanket (Original Design)

When going through my books, I decided to start with 4 different books of stitches and beginner information (of which 2 are multiple book sets). The title and author of each book is linked to the book's page on Amazon.com in case you want more information.

     Book 1
Knitting 200 Q&A by Rita Taylor
This is a fabulous beginner book with questions about knitting needles, ribbing joining and so much more. Each chapter of questions highlights a different topic such as, Lace, Casting On, Hints and Tips, Shaping and others. This is very handy to have for broadening your overall knitting knowledge.

     Book 2
Knit & Purl, 250 Stitches to Knit edited by Erika Knight
This was the first pattern book I bought when I started wanting to learn about patterns and what all those silly numbers and letters mean. This book is brought to you by Interweave Press. Yes, those are the same people that I got my scholarship from. Funny how things work out. One of the reasons I chose this book is the simplicity of how it's written. There is usually one pattern per page, sometimes two. My second reason is that every few pages there is a little knitting tip. Sometimes I will flip through the book just to read a few of the tips.

     Book Set 1
The Stitch Collection: A Box of Portable Guides to Knit Stitches by Debbie O'Neill
This is an adorable little box set the could easily fit in a knitting bag or a backpack. There are 5 books: Knit & Purl, Rib, Lace, Cables and Specialty. There is a little paragraph on each page about the stitch so you get more that just the pattern. This also makes a great gift for newer knitters, I gave a set to my Mom and she is having a lot of fun trying the different stitches.

     Book Set 2
Vogue Knitting Stitchionary, Volume One: Knit & Purl by Vogue Knitting Magazine
Vogue Knitting Stitchionary, Volume Two: Cables by Vogue Knitting Magazine
Vogue Knitting Stitchionary, Volume Three: Color Knitting by Vogue Knitting Magazine
Vogue Knitting Stitchionary, Volume Five: Lace Knitting by Vogue Knitting Magazine
Vogue Knitting Stitchionary, Volume Six: Edgings by Vogue Knitting Magazine
Now I know you are wondering where is volume 4? Well, volume 4 is about crocheting. These books are "hard-core," in-depth patterns and charts, where applicable. No cutsie little tips or fun facts just the goods. The range of patterns and photography in this set is astounding.

So there you have it, books for the knitter who likes variety, and a lot of it.
