About Me

Hello and welcome to Savery Knitting!

My name is Victoria and I live with my family in Summerville, SC.

First, I want to start with how I came to pick the name Savery Knitting. Well there are actually 2 reasons: Savery is my maiden name and my Grandma (Joanna Savery) is the one who taught me to knit.

My grandma taught me to knit when I was probably 8 or 9. After those first lessons I never really thought about knitting again for more than 20 years. Over the years I have dabbled in every other artsy/craftsy thing which included cross-stitch, quilting, sewing, playing the piano, writing, drawing and so on.

It wasn't until I became pregnant with my first child in 2009 that I picked up knitting needles again and my passion was found. I started with a scarf for my husband and have not stopped in the years since. (See my Finished Projects page.)

To expand my knitting knowledge I have taken online tutorials from Craftsy, Annie's and a local instructor, KnitOasis. I have also become a member of The Knitting Guild Association, Flowertown Knitting Guild (of which I am a Charter Member and Secretary) and Summerville Knitters, all to broaden my knitting know how. I have attended quite a few knitting conferences over the years, including Stitches East, TKGA Conference, and Lowcountry Fiber Fair. I also had the honor of being the recipient of the 2014 Interweave Knitting Conference Scholarship.

Going beyond just knitting for fun, in April of 2015, I sold my first pattern to LYDIA Yarn, a luxury yarn company. On June 12, 2015, I hosted my first World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKIP) event. I have also started to test knit and create my own designs. I have since been contacted to provide other patterns that you will be able to see once they are officially published. All the designing has given me the idea for 2 knitting books. Please check back regularly for updates on my original designs, test knits and the 2 knitting books.

While knitting is my passion, it is second to my husband and 3 daughters. There is also 1 dog, 1 cat, 1 fish, countless local in-laws, far-away family members and good friends. My family is my center and I could not imagine it any other way.

Born and raised a New England girl, I am a Southern Lady at heart. I didn't feel at home until I moved to Charleston, South Carolina. Plus...all the snow and cold was not for me.

  1. Hi Victoria, I was googling grape ivy yarn and came across your blog. I'm not a knitter but I crochet afghans for project Linus as well as blankets for America. I started an afghan about a year ago with a stock of grape ivy yarn and thought I had enough yarn. I didn't And I didn't realize it is a discontinued color. I am hoping you still have one or two skeins of red heart grape ivy yarn that I might purchase from you. Thank you.
