Day 5 = August 3, 2014
Aside from charging an hourly rate, you can charge a flat fee per type of item. Your cousin wants a baby blanket which is typically 24"x36". For example, you could charge $50 plus the cost of supplies for all baby blankets. Scarves could be $25 plus the cost of supplies.
There are pros to charging a flat rate per type of item:
- You will have more affordable prices.
- You can take as many or few hours as you need to finish the item.
- You can actually end up pricing competitively with store bought items.
- You are greatly undervaluing your time.
- Pricing by the piece can make it seem like you are not being original since all scarves would be $25.
- If you love to knit, knit no matter what the payment.
- You can knit and you have every right to charge if someone requests something.
- Someone will think you are under quoting and offer you more. Accept, say 'Thank You' and get knitting.
