Week 31 = Worth of Your Knitting
Day 4 = August 2, 2014
If you choose to charge for your knit item, one option is to charge per hour of knitting. A per hour rate allows you to charge a specific amount per item.
Say you charge $20 per hour of knitting. If you are knitting an easy hat and get it done in 2 hours, that is $40 plus materials (as I stated Thursday).
There are pros to charging by the hour:
- You have a set price based on hours - no guess work.
- Hours can add up which means a bigger paycheck.
- You have a finite deadline.
- You really need to have a good idea of how quickly you knit to give an accurate quote.
- Needing the guts to tell someone that the sweater they want will cost more that their house payment can be a little intimidating.
- You have confidence in your work and skill.
- You and your time are worth it.
- Someone will be outrageous and ask for the sweater, so be prepared to put your knitting where your mouth is.
